Accreditation from the Tree Care Industry Association

The ISA certificate is a professional recognition of the skills and knowledge in arboriculture. To attain this certificate, you must be well versed in tree biology, maintenance practices, tree safety, diagnosis, and other subjects related to tree care. The American National Standard Institute accredited the ISA Arborist certificate program. Certificate holders are held to a high standard of behavioral and professional practice. There is a Code of Ethics that they follow.

The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) is a trade association of 2,300 tree care firms and affiliated companies and was established in 1938 as the National Arborist Association.

TCIA develops safety and education programs, standards of tree care practice and management information for tree and landscape firms around the world. TCIA provides continuing education, training, conferences and publications to promote the safe and appropriate practice of tree care.

The CTSP is a certification for arborists who specialize in tree safety. The certificate was developed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and the Arboricultural Association of Canada (AAC). This certification requires candidates to have at least three years of experience in tree work, as well as an accredited degree or certificate.

Graduates of this program are qualified to provide recommendations for tree hazards. They can also provide training and education on preventing and mitigating tree hazards. The CTSP is a required certification for those who want to work in tree risk assessment, inspection, and management.

The TRAQ certification is the newest certification available in the arboriculture field. It was developed by the Tree Risk Assessment Qualifications Board (TRAAQB) to meet the needs of those who work in the field of tree risk assessment. The TRAQ certification requires at least one year of experience and a degree or certificate in forestry or forestry-related studies.

The purpose of this certification is to provide a level of training that will allow arborists to work independently as tree risk assessors.
